Legislators on both sides of the aisle, Dems as well as Republicans, in Indiana get it – charter schools work, and their state deserves more of them.
And, those legislators have the …… (choose your own term) to stand up to a mob-like group of teachers who don’t get it.
Gov. Mitch Daniels also laid it out plainly about his state’s teacher’s union officials:
“Their priority is their organization, not the young people of Indiana. Their special interest domination of education policy from the local level to the Statehouse has hurt Indiana children for too long and this year, change must finally come.”

I sure hope this will finally inspire some of our legislators to do the right thing for kids instead of cowering before noisy educators who selfishly stand in the way of educational progress.

I don't think Indiana educators are at all selfish. I truly believe they want what is best for the students. But Indiana state officials won't even consider what Indiana educators are saying. They are just ignoring them, as if they have gone to college (multiple times), worked in this career field their whole lives, and know exactly what is going on in schools on a day-to-day basis. Educators aren't opposed to everything in every bill. But for Indiana to truly help Indiana schools, everyone-including teachers and government officials, need to consider all angles, all opinions, and all solutions. Everyone needs to take a step back and ask 'What is best for the students and how can be achieve our best?' and then work it out together. Right now, there are hundreds of people in a sandbox, and only a select few are given shovels or buckets. Those who don't have shovels or buckets are considered completely mindless, inadequate, ignorant morons that should be pushed out of the box and considered no more.
