Rep. Mike Cherry (D-Princeton, Ky.) wants to shore up local government budgets in Kentucky by letting them delay payments on their pension bills. Unfortunately, that's exactly the kind of thinking that has put the state in a deep hole worth tens of billions of dollars.
Cherry told the Lexington Herald Leader:
"I don't think it will create problems down the road," Cherry said. "The cities and counties are not saving any money whatsoever, it's just shifting the burden to later down the road. We've got to think the economy is going to get a lot better in the next few years."
As legislators reconvene the 2009 General Assembly this week, the truth is we need more of them to plan state spending as if the economy won't "get a lot better" soon.

This is exactly how we arrived in this situation in the first place!
