"Grandma, what big tax incentives you have!"

The House Economic Development Committee approved a bill Thursday to expand state government tax incentive programs for businesses.

House Bill 229, however, doesn't address one simple question: "Do state economic development schemes really benefit the public or would lower taxes across the board be better?"

Seems that with the massive amount of resources devoted to "economic development" by the government, if there were real justification for the whole exercise they would surely let us know in detailed fashion.

This whole charade reminds me of the "Little Red Riding Hood" story and Kentuckians are going over the river and through the woods to get eaten by our grandmother.

Republicans don't believe that "lower taxes across the board [are]…better."

That's just a propaganda spin. They only mean lower taxes for the affluent few.

This is some more feudalism. As the Cato Institute reported, paupers paid less taxes than do American workers.

Under conservative economics AKA feudalism, paupers are numerous, the affluent few have "divine rights," AKA "free market," "less and no regulation." All anti-American values and ideals.

I'm just wondering if Hempy is Woody Harrelson...Just asking. :-)

Seriously, this is a poor bill...Where in their right minds can they justify possibly giving some movie producers or tv show producers money up front? Research this, and you will see that nearly EVERY state that has bent over backwards for the Hollywood crowd has lost more money than they have taken in, OR they can not prove that the state truly benefits from this type of tax break. There is the rare exception or two, such as New York, but that is because they have such a high sales tax as it is.

You're right about the giveaways to movie producers, Eddie. But, for the record, Hempy is not Woody Harrelson.

David,

I know that, I was being ironic. Since Woody Harrelson is also an actor, which I have no doubt you know. Just my attempt at humor.

Want to get Hempy riled up? Tell him they are increasing the penalty for possession of marijuana, making it a felony. Haha
