More on the Increase in Diploma Awards in Kentucky

This graph shows the five-year percentage change in Bachelor degree awards in Kentucky’s public universities.

We mentioned earlier that most Kentucky schools showed an increase in degree awards, with the one notable exception of Kentucky State University.

This graph shows that, but it also shows that the most dramatic increase in Bachelors degree awards occurred in only two schools, Eastern Kentucky University and Northern Kentucky University.

I hope someone is looking into that, especially since I know Northern has always struggled for allocations from the down-state-centric interests in Frankfort. Northern seems to be doing it better, and maybe cheaper, but I have to look into that more to be sure.

I was a student at NKU and the fact that they keep class sizes small and the professors there treat each student with a personal feel contributes to the success of NKU's graduation rate. I think the school does great and should get more funding and recognition from the rest of the state.

Thank you for the input, Jonathan.

I know several staff members at NKU, and their real interest and concern for students is quite obvious. NKU has also been a leader in reaching out to the K to 12 community to improve math instruction in our public school systems.

I think Dr. Votruba, NKU's president, and his staff have done a notable job, and the new diploma award statistics support that. Other universities around the state should take a closer look, and legislators should consider funding accordingly, as well.
