The recent University of Kentucky student housing debate has driven a lot of attention to private property surrounding the school. This attention has included student protests at city council meetings, random inspections by the fire marshal and city code enforcement, and even visits to the area by Mayor Newberry and UK president Lee Todd.

I am against the city's actions here, plain and simple. If the city wants to "fix" the housing problem around UK, they should do it the right way and enforce previously existing legislation and common law of fire safety and code enforcement based on complaints filed by citizens, not go around targeting students for code violations or introducing new legislation to spread out the students
Regardless of if you believe the city and university are teaming up to create cheap property around UK for the university to continue its expansion, you have to agree with Fredric Hayek's arguments in "Law, Legislation and Liberty: Vol 1".
