'Revolutionary' idea: Markets, not governments, should determine smoking policies

Nonsmoker Jim Waters, director of policy and communications for the Bluegrass Institute, Kentucky's free-market think tank, will debate government-imposed smoking bans on Western Kentucky University's Revolution 91.7, WWHR-FM, on Tuesday at 7:15 (EST)/6:15 p.m. (CST).

Waters' opponent will be smoker Will Doolin, a junior majoring in broadcasting with a minor in meteorology. The 15-minute program is the first of several weekly on-air policy debates hosted by Sylvia Horlander, a junior nonsmoker majoring in broadcast news and political science. Future shows will feature debates concerning current events, including health care and gun control.

Let's hope there will be more of these types of programs that allow free-market viewpoints to gain a fair hearing among much of the leftist/politically correct blather emanating from university campuses on a regular basis.

Money moves the Health Industry. Of the possible 300+ causes of Heart Disease it is always, Smoking/SHS that is the first target. Only 18% of smokers get Heart Disease and SHS is not connected to Heart Disease. There are dozens of possible causes of Lung Cancer and Smokers account for only 17%. The Drug Industry is financing the Smoking Ban agenda in order to market Smoking Cessation Products. The real possible causes are ignored. We should be looking at Diesel, gas, wood burning, industrial pollution, our drinking water, diet and chemicals. Pharmaceutical Drugs are part of the problem with FDA approval. Thousands die every year from FDA approved drugs.
These will never be seen in our Major media.

Since everyone over 30 has been raised around SHS/ETS,and SHS/ETS IS SUPPOSED TO BE SO DEADLY, why are Baby Boomers the longest living of all generations? Why, since smoking has dropped from 54% to 24%, are all the diseases supposedly caused by smoking, on the rise every year? California has the oldest smoking ban and their Asthma rate is 16% and Kentucky has only a 6% rate of Asthma with the highest rate of Smoking? Why do Anti's still say SHS/ETS KILLS, when the EPA Report they base their statements on was found to be a FRAUD by Federal Judge Osteen and two Congressional Committees?

Why, did the longest/largest studies by the ACS and the WHO find SHS/ETS had no connection to Cancer or Heart Disease? Why are there more than 250 other studies with the same findings?

Why can't the Anti-smokers find or admit to any of these studies?
Could it be because of the Billions to be made from the sale of Smoking Cessation Products, when their own studies show that quitting Cold Turkey is more effective?
Could it be because Profit is more important to them than Health?
Clearly SHS/ETS is not the Health threat they make it out to be.
So, why are Smokers being treated like Second Class Citizens? This smells like it's all about smell and discrimination caused by Greed.

When was the last time you saw a poll/study that didn't support the reason for starting the poll/study? I know of one that was definitely biased. When the caller ask their survey questions and the first answer was, I am 85years old and I have smoked for 50 years, the caller immediately hung up. It isn't hard to make a poll/study biased. It's not hard to dismiss answers that are not wanted. Polls/studies are just a form of advertisement. Do you believe every advertisement you hear?

Most don't know that one company that profits the most from smoking bans is the same company that started the move to get smoking bans passed.

FACT: Smoking bans were started by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) in 1992, through their “SmokeLess States” project, later called “RWJF Tobacco Control Policies” http://www.rwjf.org/files/publications/books/2005/chapter_02.pdf

The RWJF was started by over 5.6 billion in stock by Johnson & Johnson. The largest maker of Smoking Cessation Products. Much of the funds are funneled to Tobacco Control Groups through the ACS.
Anyone surprised? I'll bet s. Hahn isn't.
