Policy v. Politics

Here are a couple of definitions for your consideration:

pol-i-cy - a definite course or method of action selected from among alternatives and in light of given conditions to guide and determine present and future decisions; a high-level overall plan embracing the general goals and acceptable procedures especially of a governmental body
pol-i-tics - political affairs or business; especially : competition between competing interest groups or individuals for power and leadership; political activities characterized by artful and often dishonest practices
There is a distinct difference between these two yet somehow our POLICYmakers seem to get caught up in POLITICS.

How does your state representative, congressman, senator, governor, etc... interpret the term "policymaker"?
