What are your thoughts on government transparency?

During his campaign and his tenure thus far, President Obama has touted the importance of government transparency. In fact, the president has stated many times that he would put budgets, bills, earmarks, etc... online for days, sometimes even weeks, to allow citizens an advanced look at what their government is doing.

I am 100% behind this idea of transparency in government.  The more transparency the better.  Transparency is the first step toward accountability.

I am wondering though, how many citizens are satisfied with the level of transparency currently in existence. I am willing to bet that in Kentucky citizens would like to see more transparency given the introduction of new legislation to make government spending available online.

Transparency is important.  How do you feel your government is performing with regards to transparency?  What would you like to see? Have the promises for transparency been held up to your satisfaction? Let us know what you think about it!

Legislators aren't paying attention to detail so the detail must be made available to citizens with ample time to analyze it. Obama calls everything an emergency. That's because he doesn't want any of us to know what is in the bills he is pushing. Heck, he doesn't even know what's in them based on his answers to questions.

Transparency promises have been all rhetoric, no action. The people have fallen for the right words at the right time too often. Politicians get an 'F' for their transparency follow through.

I would like to see each legislator subjected to a cross examination on bills he/she votes for. The cross examination would include questions like what is the impact on each Kentuckian, how much will this add to our state or national debt, provide copies of all analysis you used to reach your conclusion, etc. If they are not able to answer satisfactory they need to publicly highlighted and chastised.

Anybody else going to jump into this topic???
