Jaime Escalante, the legendary teacher who inspired the movie “Stand and Deliver” with his precedent-breaking AP courses for Hispanic kids in inner-city Los Angeles almost 30 years ago, is fighting a new battle, this time with cancer.
For more on this remarkable teacher, check out the latest Los Angeles Times update.
Escalante’s students say he taught them more than just calculus. According to the LA Times, “In their minds, they still hear Kemo push them to think methodically, to work hard, to be bold, to never offer excuses.”
After 20 years of KERA, these are critical lessons far too many Kentucky kids have yet to learn.
