They are keeping an eye on us...

I blogged yesterday on the excitement around our 2010 Open Records Project getting underway with the filing of over 30 records requests for superintendent performance evaluations in under-performing districts.  It seems the Kentucky School Boards Association has been keeping tabs; they were sure to inform their followers on Twitter...

Yup! That's us! The evaluations have already begun to pour in and I applaud the early responders! A few "interesting" pieces of information have already been picked out.

More information on this project in the coming days, stay tuned!

Hello, Thanks for working on getting this information. Also regarding federal funding of our school districts: it would be interesting to see an honest accounting of money received vs. the cost of applying for and administering said monies. with every federal dollar comes reams of paper to be filled out on every level...classroom on up to district offices. By the time all the "paper pushers" are paid, is there really any benefit? How much of a monetary net gain is there?

Federal dollars also pour into schools that have nothing to do with education. An example of wasted $4 billion is Ben Chandler's Green School Modernization bill, which was rolled into the stimulus bill.
“All of our nation’s schools are in need of becoming more energy-efficient, and implementing these standards could be a large, symbolic step toward our country’s commitment to end climate change,” Chandler added. $4 billion wasted on a statement on climate change...isn't that what Cap and Trade was? But waste in the name of education is supposed to be OK, because its for the children!

Thanks for your work!

Eunice,

Thanks for your input! I've never really looked into federal funding vs. admin costs however last year we made a huge push to get budgets and check registers for school districts. I am confident that we could assess a rough estimate based on where their funding is coming from and what percentage going to the "paper pushers"/admin.

I have passed the idea on to our education analyst to see what he thinks!
