Quote of the day

"For too long, we've accepted failing schools. Achieving true diversity doesn't come from kids leaving before breakfast and getting home after dinner.” --Louisville Metro Council member Hal Heiner

Too many Kentuckians accept the utter failure of its public education system today in the same light as Thomas Paine's famous "Common Sense" quote, "A long habit of not thinking a thing wrong gives it a superficial appearance of being right, and raises at first a formidable outcry in favor of custom (the status quo)." How does spending $Millions on new schools with cupolas, lavish athletic facilities and cavernous classrooms improve public education? It makes it more difficult to criticize.

Or a Kentucky redneck version - if all else fails, lower your requirements and expectations and give union crafts welfare through inflated prevailing wage mandates to build structures to keep focus off the real reasons students aren't learning.
