New senator's priorities include legislation 'to force members to read the bills'

No longer is he Senator-elect. After Thursday's swearing-in ceremony, it's now Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky.

In his inaugural statement, Paul promised to "keep my promises to the people of Kentucky. ... They wanted to send a message to Washington: stop. Stop the out-of-control expansion of government power. Stop the spending."

Among his top priorities will be legislation "to force members to read the bills."

Too bad this wasn't the priority of the 111th Congress. Perhaps if its members would have read the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act before passing it, they would have been struck by just how unconstitutional and traumatic it really was.

It's amazing that we are at a point where legislation has to be introduced that forces the nation's representatives to read bills. Wow.

Isn't that they're only job? Isn't that want they get 6 figure salaries and multiple 5 and 6 figured salaried staff to do...READ and write legislation. I agree with Anonymous. It's a sad day when legislation has to be written to force legislators to do their one and only duty as legislators.
