Quote of the day: Mediocre education

"If an unfriendly foreign power had attempted to impose on America the mediocre educational performance that exists today, we might well have viewed it as an act of war. As it stands, we have allowed this to happen to ourselves." --"A Nation at Risk"

That is because our government and education leaders can't get past the powerful union intimidation and union barriers to reform. It is too easy to do nothing because they aren't held accountable for their unacceptable results. With tenure, job protection, and union support to fall back on, it is just too 'inconvenient' to do what is required to reform the system.
