Quote of the day: The heart of the (education) matter

“We can’t fix STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) without fixing K-12 education.“ --Joe Kelin, CEO, Educational Division of News Corporation and former Chancellor of NYC Department of Education

As a graduate engineer, I could not agree more.

You can't fix K-12 education in KY until you fix the command and control structure. The amateur, unaccountable, part-time site-based councils have to go. We pay good money to superintendents and principals but then neuter their authority to get along with the union. It's time to step up to the plate and reverse that edict.

The failure of our education system to educate America's children is destroying our pool of talent and hurting our economic productivity. K-12 needs major reform. And it needs it now!
