Dying for "state approval" in Nicholasville

Because of antiquated "certificate of need" laws in Kentucky, residents of Jessamine county can't have a hospital. St. Joseph-Jessamine, which wants to build a hospital in Nicholasville, can't:

"The emergency room should free up ambulances in Jessamine County, because crews won't always have to bring patients to Lexington, Cassity said."

"Eventually, St. Joseph wants to open a surgical center and a hospital in Nicholasville, said Jeff Murphy, a spokesman for St. Joseph. So far, the hospital group has not received state approval to expand services."

Don't the bureaucrats in Frankfort have something better to do than risk people's lives by infringing on market decisions of willing providers and consumers?

"Proliferation of technology?! What on Earth is he talking about? In what alternate universe does limiting supply lower costs? "

Amen

Much the same could be said about the Dept. of Insurance and their regulations which, for the most part, simply drive up the cost and lessen the competition.

"Market decisions" alone is just a copout term for avoiding accountability and responsibility.

Government needs to have oversight into all decisions, and not leave it up to "market decisions" alone. "Market decisions" are just individuals in positions of influence or control of money to impose their will on others without being accountable.

The current economic crisis is the product of Bush and Republican, conservative bankrupt philosophy of avoiding responsiblity for their actions.

This economic crisis can clearly be laid to blame on Republican, conservative philosophy that wants to be in control, but accountable and answerable to no one.
