Making it up on volume

President Barack Obama's Domestic Policy Council Director Melody Barnes spoke to reporters this morning via conference call about Obama's health care reform proposal in which he seeks to expand insurance coverage and government coverage while also lowering costs.

A reporter asked her how this plan would be different than the state attempts to do the same thing, which all have resulted in disaster.

Her answer, essentially, was that states like Massachusetts always said that for their expanded government scheme to really work it would have to be done at the federal level.

I kid you not.

Do we really want politicians to tell us which doctor to see or what pill to take?

And so what's wrong with a federally run health care system? Medicare doesn't tell you which doctor to see or what pill to take. That's just some more conservative spin. No wonder John Stuart Mill said of conservatives: "Conservatives are not necessarily stupid, but most stupid people are conservatives."

Medicare is federally run, and is far less expensive than is private health care. Private health care is just another unnecessary, overpriced middle man.

Too, as far as funding is concerned, I don't suppose you've ever heard of proportional taxation on the movement of all moneys?

It's an American value. You can read about it in Federalist Paper 12 by Alexander Hamilton. He wrote:

"The ability of a country to pay taxes must always be proportioned, in a great degree, to the quantity of money in circulation, and to the celerity with which it circulates. Commerce, contributing to both these objects, must of necessity render the payment of taxes easier, and facilitate the requisite supplies to the treasury."

I guess the rub comes in because the wealthy would have to pay their fair share of taxes too. Conservatives idea of a "fair" tax system is one where the taxes of the wealthy are borne by the working class.

That your economic system of feudalism.
