A interesting study was recently completed for the city of Lexington. The study, called "LFUCG Housing Market Study", was conducted by the Robert Charles Lesser & Co. Group. You can read the entire study here.
A couple of findings stood out:
- Lexington has an unmet need for housing at the most affordable levels
- Generation Y, the fastest growing home-buying cohort, values being able to walk where they need to from their home
- Based on housing trends and changing preferences, there will be a larger demand for higher density housing in the future.
This flies in the face of the recent housing debate pertaining to the city dictating to property owners how many students they can rent to and the regulation of the density of students in a neighborhood.
Why would the city commission a study and then consider actions directly opposed to the recommendations that study makes? Perhaps it didn't tell them what they wanted to hear?
