I read recently that the United States Postal Service lost $238 billion due to a changing business climate. Electronic communication has drastically affected the level of business the USPS is seeing and has caused it to lose money.
Their solution? Stop delivering on Saturdays to save money.
I applaud this. Finally someone woke up and realized that things have to change. We cannot afford to continue wasting money in the same ways we always have simply because that is what we have always done. If the USPS isn't competitive and the taxpayers who are funding it are seeking out other means of delivering their mail, why should we prop it up?
This is a step in the right direction for the government learning to be good stewards of taxpayer money. We have a long way to go.
